Reading a salary offer

What does the salary statistics measure?

Medlingsinstitutet’s lönestrukturstatistik reports monthly salary converted to full time (fixed pay plus fixed supplements) per occupation using the SSYK 2012 classification. Overtime, variable pay and bonus are excluded.

The percentiles p10, p25, median, p75 and p90 describe the spread. p90 means 90% of employees in the occupation earn that much or less.

Why is occupational pension counted as pay?

Occupational pension (tjänstepension) is deferred salary. Under a collective agreement the employer pays 4.5% of salary up to 625 500 kr (7.5 income base amounts) and 30% above it, on top of your gross salary.

It is money you receive but rarely price in. An offer with no occupational pension needs a visibly higher salary to make up for it.

Why is bonus shown separately?
What does a percentile mean?

If the offer lands at the 60th percentile, 60% of people in that occupation earn that much or less. The median is the 50th percentile: half earn more, half earn less. More on salary spread and percentiles.

We interpolate linearly between the five published points. Outside the 10th and 90th we label it “under p10” or “over p90” rather than claim a precise figure.
