In short: MacLaine Finance is a set of calculators that run entirely in your browser. There are no user accounts and no backend. The figures you enter are saved only locally on your device and are never sent to us or anyone else.
Who is responsible
The service is run by Matthew MacLaine as a private individual. If you have questions about this policy, reach me at matthew@maclaine.se.
What data is stored
The tools save your inputs so you don't have to start over each time. This uses your browser's localStorage – a space on your own device. It may include:
- Figures you enter, such as salary, municipality, year of birth, savings, loans and expenses
- Your preferences, such as language (Swedish/English) and theme (light/dark)
- Results and choices you make in tools like the flowchart and dashboard
This information never leaves your device. It is not stored on any server, we cannot see it, and it does not sync between your devices.
What we don't do
- No user accounts, no login, no passwords
- No tracking cookies and no third-party trackers
- We never sell or share data – there is no data to share
- No advertising and no profiling
Anonymous visitor statistics
To understand how many people visit the site we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-friendly: it uses no cookies, stores no IP address and builds no profiles. The statistics are fully aggregated (e.g. page views) and cannot be linked to you or your financial data.
External requests
A few tools fetch open, non-personal data from external sources – never your own inputs:
- The mortgage calculator may fetch current average interest rates from Statistics Sweden's (SCB) open API. None of your figures are sent there.
- The BRF analysis is an exception: there you use your own API key, and your text is then sent directly to the AI provider you chose. This only happens when you start an analysis yourself, and the key is stored locally on your device.
You stay in control
Because everything lives in your browser, you can delete it at any time: clear site data/storage for maclaine.se in your browser settings, or use a private window. All saved data disappears immediately.
Children
The service is aimed at adults working out their personal finances and is not intended for children.
Changes
If this policy is updated, the date at the top of the page changes. Since we collect no contact details we cannot notify you personally, so please check back here from time to time. Why the tools are built this way is described in the philosophy.
