About Matthew MacLaine
I live in Stockholm, work in IT and infrastructure in healthcare, and build these tools in my spare time.
My day job is Lead IT Engineer at Neko Health, previously Kry. What I do professionally is operations, infrastructure and internal IT, not finance. Personal finance is an interest I have had for a long time, and this suite is what came of it: calculators and explanations I built because I needed them myself when I moved to Sweden.
The guides are written in the first person for a reason: they are my conclusions, not an editorial board’s. When I write that I would do something a particular way, that is exactly what it is, an opinion from someone who has run the numbers. You do not have to agree. That you can see how a figure is arrived at matters more to me than that you trust me.
I am not a financial adviser, not a broker and not a tax consultant. Nothing on this site is personal advice, and I make no money from what you choose to do: there are no ads, no commercial partners and no referral links. For decisions big enough to hurt if you get them wrong, talk to someone licensed to advise you.
The year’s amounts and rates come from Skatteverket, SCB and Pensionsmyndigheten, and get a pass every January when the new figures land. The tools and the articles read them from the same place, so an amount cannot say one thing in a calculator and something else in a guide. If you spot something that looks wrong, I would genuinely like to know: file it here or email me.
Why the suite exists and what I will not compromise on is on the philosophy page. What happens to your data, which is nothing, is in the privacy policy. The tools themselves are at Finance Tools.
