Inkomstpension (income pension)
Inkomstpension is the largest part of your allmän pension. 16% of your income each year goes into it, recorded in a personal account. It is not invested in funds; instead the balance is revalued every year in step with average wage growth across Sweden.
How it grows
It works as a notional account: the money is not sitting in a fund with your name on it, but your recorded balance rises each year with the income index, roughly how average incomes change. At retirement the balance is turned into a monthly amount using a delningstal that reflects how long your generation is expected to live.
The ceiling
Only income up to the pension ceiling (8.07 × IBB, 673 038 kr for 2026) counts. Above it, you build no more inkomstpension, which is a big reason higher earners rely on tjänstepension on top. In weak years the yearly revaluation can be small or even negative (the automatic balancing sometimes called “bromsen”).
Where it shows up

Inkomstpension is stable and automatic, but it is tied to the economy and capped. Treat it as the base you build tjänstepension and private savings on top of, not the finished picture.
