Right to move (flytträtt)

Figures for tax year 2026Updated September 2026
Definition

Flytträtt is the right to move your pension capital from one provider to another, for example to cut fees or gather scattered fribrev (paid-up policies). It applies to individual occupational pension, private pension insurance and IPS.

What you can move

Fund and deposit insurance can be moved freely; since 1 July 2022 you may move a private pension insurance regardless of when it was taken out. Traditional insurance is more restricted, there is not always a right to move if it was signed before 2007. An IPS can always be moved to another savings institution, but you cannot move between a pension insurance and an IPS.

The fee cap

So the move is not eaten up by fees there is a statutory cap, in force since 2021. The fee may be at most 0.0127 prisbasbelopp (about 750 kr in 2026), and if the policy value is at most one prisbasbelopp (59 200 kr) the provider may not charge any fee at all. The cap applies to fund and deposit insurance signed after June 2007.

Collective-agreement pension

If you have an avtalspension you do not move freely to any provider, but between the providers the parties to your agreement have selected, via the agreement’s portal (for example Collectum for ITP or Fora for SAF-LO). Which options you have therefore depends on your agreement area.

Check before you move

Low fees are a strong reason to move, but check first that you are not giving up guarantees or survivor cover you actually want. For a defined-benefit pension, a move can mean swapping a guarantee for a market-linked value.
