Savings rate (sparkvot)
Sparkvot is what share of your income you save. If you save 5 000 kr out of a net income of 25 000 kr, your savings rate is 20%. It sounds simple, but it is the single strongest lever in your personal finances.
How it is calculated
Sparkvot = savings divided by income. It is cleanest to use net income (what lands in your account) and to count all saving, including amortisation and occupational pension if you want the full picture. It is a number you can track month by month.
Why it decides everything
The savings rate pulls in two directions at once. A high rate builds capital faster, but it also means you live on less, which lowers how much you need to become financially free. That is why raising your savings rate moves the time-to-goal far more than a few extra percent of return. It is also the number you control the most.

Do not fixate on a perfect number. Raising your savings rate a few percentage points at a time, and automating the transfer for the day your salary arrives, does more over time than chasing a higher return.
